I’ve owned my Thoroughbred gelding, Valentino for close to three years. As a lot of Thoroughbreds are notoriously known for being “high strung”, Val was no exception to this. We’ve dealt with soundness issues due to poor hoof condition, back soreness and two episodes of colic as well as a lot of nervous energy that in turn makes riding sometimes challenging.

All along, I complied with whatever the barn management fed to the horses in the barn; even with the concern that maybe what he was eating wasn’t the most appropriate choice for him, but not wanting to rock the boat. Instead, I supplemented with expensive GI and calming supplements that I’m not sure were even effective. After another colic episode this past spring I decided that it was time to make a change. What if these behavior issues, bad feet, and back soreness were stemming from internal issues, like an ailing gut?

Val had been receiving routine chiropractic and acupuncture care from Dr. Natalie Landen, who knew all about Val’s issues and she recommended I look into Cavalor® feed. She put me in touch with Heather Layton, Cavalor®’s Northeast Territory Manager. I spent some time talking to Heather and we set up a time where she could stop by and meet Val in person. This happened to be the same day that we moved to a new barn and Val was on his WORST behavior. After carefully evaluating Val and listening to my concerns with him, Heather recommended trying Val on the Cavalor® FiberForce, feeling that much of his issues could be linked to stomach/gut issues. Val was started on the Cavalor® FiberForce in July and I can truly say that I’ve seen great results.

While Val still has his TB moments, his demeanor is much calmer overall. I eventually was able to take him off of his GI supplement and calming supplement. He’s become more manageable by myself and barn staff. Another interesting thing to note: he used to be a “biter” and now that habit has subsided too! Another thing that makes me wonder if this could have all stemmed from GI issues.

Recently, Heather stopped by my current barn to visit and she was very impressed with Val’s change. I can’t thank her enough for her continued support and advice and to Cavalor® for developing this feed! I’ve also recently started Val on Cavalor®’s joint supplement, Cavalor® Arti Matrix and am looking forward to positive results! Thanks so much Cavalor®!!
